Voyeurism-Gay Boys at the Beach

Boy at Beach

Who sits like this…I mean really?  I know it is wrong to take photos of people without them knowing and then post them on the Internet, but I think this boy would be proud.  I have always been a voyeur at heart, so people watching is a favorite activity.  I truly believe one of the reasons I became a therapist was to delve into people’s private lives and souls from the sidelines.  Maybe that is because if I am analyzing everyone else, I don’t have to analyze myself.  But if you know me, you know I spend way too much time thinking and over-thinking.

It  has been a rough week with yet another reduction in force, and this one affecting a close friend (who by the way embodies grace like no one else).  So, this post will not be deep in any way because my brain needs a break from analyzing the world and its woes.  I’ve been nesting and haven’t gone out or done much with friends, so a beach day today with the inner circle was exactly what the doctor ordered.

The boy in the above picture entertained us all afternoon by stretching and practicing yoga poses that highlighted his gluteus maximus while sunning his body.  I’m not sure if he was OCD but he just couldn’t stand to have sand on him and would dramatically kick his heels to get the sand off, and flourish his arms as he brushed the specks away.  He was very meticulous and particular in every movement.  That is except when he did the booty shaking thing while laying on his towel and listening to his ipod.  I couldn’t help but giggle and when the other gay boys around him caught my eye, they were giggling too- so his moves weren’t working on them.  Then to make matters worse, my friends said he looked like Snyder from One Day at a Time. (Can’t remember?  See photo below)  snyder1

To top of the show, he went into the water to rinse the sand off, came back onto the beach (right after he had just walked all the way up to the restroom) wrapped a towel around his waist and proceeded to change clothes like a German on the beach.  Changing clothes took a good 5 minutes, mostly because he needed to adjust himself and shake his bird dry so everyone could see how big it was as it flapped.  My friend couldn’t help herself and clapped as he sashayed off.  Of course, he turned around and grinned.

It was a good day, sometimes not thinking and being shallow is exactly what is in order.

  1. Gotta love when people give us reason to smile! lol, i would have laughed too. good times and great photo

  2. I hate to always be the Debbie Downer, but this is a great example of one that’s caught up in the mode of passion. I’ve been reading Chap 14 of the Bhagavad Gita lately, all about how we often get caught up in the three modes of material nature (modes of ignorance, passion, and goodness), and how happiness comes from balancing the three and transcending attachment to any of them. Apparently, action in the mode of ignorance conditions one to foolishness, while the mode of passion conditions one to love the fruits of our labor and conditions one to greed (ultimately, if left unchecked), while finally, goodness conditions one to happiness.

“The Blessed Lord said: He who does not hate illumination, attachment and delusion when they are present, nor longs for them when they disappear; who is seated like one unconcerned, being situated beyond these material reactions of the modes of nature, who remains firm, knowing that the modes alone are active; who regards alike pleasure and pain, and looks on a clod, a stone and a piece of gold with an equal eye; who is wise and holds praise and blame to be the same; who is unchanged in honor and dishonor, who treats friend and foe alike, who has abandoned all fruitive undertakings–such a man is said to have transcended the modes of nature.”

But that dude sounds like a trip, and I would have been tickled. :-)
